Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
